Alice's Motorcycle
Shop
Jay was the founder and owner of the famous Alice's Motorcycle
Shop in Woodside, California. Alice's Motorcycle Shop was located at the junction of Highways 84 and 35 at the top
of the Santa Cruz mountain chain. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Jay and Alice's was host to many of the people who
would later have a powerful influence in the world of motorcycles; Arlen Ness, Joe Rocket, Joe Cree (California Customs),
Simms, and others would ride up to the shop on weekends to visit and to cut their teeth on the tight twisties of Hwy 9 and
84.
Alice's was visited by bike enthusiasts from all over the world - each weekend tourists and locals
alike would ride up or drive in to see the rare and custom bikes that filled the parking lot. Alice's 350 Chevy
Boss Hoss was a favorite for photographs.
Alice's location at the intersection of several great roads made
it a perfect place for bikers to meet to start their weekend rides. Every kind of enthusiast was represented - bike
gangs (HA's Daly City 81 abd others), HOG chapters, Ducati clubs, sport bike clubs, vintage bike clubs, lady rider groups,
supermoto clubs, dual sports, "squids", the "140" club, you name it. Alices Motorcyle Shop hosted
many parties that became legend in the local bike lore of the Bay Area. Several of the photos on the website were taken
at Alice's parties.
Here are some photos from the very special Alice's.
